Past the sounds of the kitchen, the numerous voices, all melding together in one song of murmurs, let everyone who was cooking know the soup kitchen would be full tonight.

The new daycare worker was a hit. The small group of babies, about 5 of them, seemed to soothe so easily when she was around. Cradling them close, she would sing to them, softly, as she rocked in a chair. How she managed to hold two at a time and not tire, no one could really figure out. She seemed too young to have children. "I just love them," she would answer simply.
